Wax is a maintenance product for paint that’s already intact, not a rust preventative for paint that’s already been breached.

Myth: “Washing Your Car Too Often Damages the Paint”

Washing itself doesn’t damage paint — washing incorrectly does. Using a dirty or abrasive cloth, skipping lubrication (soap and water), or using the wrong products can cause fine scratching over time, but that’s a technique problem, not a frequency problem. Myth: “Interior Detailing Is Just Vacuuming”

A real interior detail includes shampooing carpet and upholstery, cleaning and dressing interior vinyl, cleaning and reconditioning leather where applicable, and detailed cleaning of dash vents, trim panels, and cup holders — areas a vacuum and a wipe-down never actually reach. Vacuuming is maintenance; a detail is a reset.

Myth: “Dark-Colored Cars Are Objectively Harder to Keep Clean”

Dark paint shows dust, swirl marks, and water spots more visibly than light paint — that part’s true. But “harder to keep clean” isn’t quite right; it’s more that imperfections are more visible on dark paint, which makes good technique and proper products matter more, not that the car actually gets dirtier faster.

Myth: “A Quick Rinse Before It Freezes Prevents Winter Damage”

A rinse removes surface dirt, but it does nothing for the salt and brine that’s already worked into wheel wells, door jambs, and the underside of the car after a New England winter drive. That kind of buildup needs an actual wash and wheel cleaning to address — not a garden-hose rinse that only reaches what’s already visible.
