Window cleaning seems like the easiest part of detailing a car — spray, wipe, done. In practice, it’s one of the easiest things to get visibly wrong. Streaks, haze, and lint don’t show up until the sun hits the glass at the right angle, and by then most people have already put the paper towels away.

Why Glass Is Harder Than It Looks

Most household glass cleaners leave behind a thin film of residue, especially when applied with paper towels or old rags that shed fibers. That residue is invisible under normal light and suddenly very visible under direct sun or headlights — which is exactly when you need clear glass the most, whether that’s an evening commute or a sunny highway drive.

Interior glass has its own extra challenge: it collects an oily haze from off-gassing plastics, hand contact, and vents blowing conditioned air across the windshield, which plain glass cleaner alone doesn’t always fully cut through.

Why New England Weather Makes This Worse
